Martial Arts Background

My background in martial arts starts with Shotakan Karate around 1992, I was there until purple belt, which is around the time I was introduced to Sifu Wayne Quintyne/Unified Martial Art Academy and then further to the philosophy of Jeet Kune Do (JKD) and the various martial arts (Kali, Jun Fan Gung Fu, Muay Thai, Savate, Dunmog, Brazilian Jujitsu, Silat, etc.), all used in the development of a Jeet Kune Do practitioner. Jeet Kune Do is really the birthplace of modern day Mix Martial Arts as cross training has always been and continues to be a strong component of JKD. I digress though, back to my experience.

Since July 1995 I have been under Sifu Wayne Quintyne’s tutelage. At the time the person that introduced me to Sifu Wayne was one of his senior students and because of that I found myself there with the senior students fairly often til one night I asked if I could join in the "advanced" classes with them, I was told once I do not hold them back, I happily took on the challenge.

Doing so sped my development in the arts up dramatically and I went on to be awarded the Student of the Year in 96, 97, 98 for Filipino Kali, Student of the Year in 98, 99 for Grappling and Male Student of the Year in 97 for growth and development in the art and philosophy of Jeet Kune Do.

I am also trained in the use of a Service Pistol by The Barbados Rifle & Pistol Federation Inc. and am currently classed as Marksman.
